‘Period Property in Sought-after Area’: 2,500 years of digging at St. George’s Hill.

In 2011 on a suburban plot in Surrey, a newly built house, Ravenridge, was put on sale for £14,750,000, The architecture of this house was described by the Daily Mail as “an unthreatening kind of bloated Georgian.” Just above Ravenridge hulks the ramparts of an Iron Age hillfort.

Ravenridge also happens to occupy part of the likely site of the first, proto-communist, Digger community established by Gerard Winstanley and others  on this, the common land of St George’s Hill, on April 1st, 1649.

A gated community since 1912, last June I tried (though admittedly, as you’ll see, not very hard) to get to the top of the Hill.
