AHRA2023: Situated Ecologies of Care

It’s been nearly three weeks since AHRA2023: Situated Ecologies of Care finished and what with mopping up and assessment processes for my UniMelb Masters studio it’s taken until now to even understand what we did. We’re beginning to think about the publications which will emerge from it too.

We had help at critical moments from various people, but the conference was conceived, developed and executed by me and Oren Lieberman – it worked sooo well between us and I feel massively proud of what we managed to pull off.

I’m also really pleased that of the 27 parallel panels, three were organised and chaired by Architecture Building and Planning (University of Melbourne) academics and between them involved 14 different ABP academics and PhD students. This sort of happened by accident – I didn’t know that I would be teaching at the University of Melbourne when I was developing the conference programme.

I won’t say too much else about it here except to link through to a pdf of the conference proceedings and to the conference programme.

Also here are a few pics – I’m not completely sure who took them so if you see this and you know – could you drop me a message? Ta.

Me introducing our opening Keynote Speaker Hélène Frichot

Thanks to wonderful illustrator and most excellent student conference ambassador Helena Woolley, I now know that my ‘spirit animal’ is a giraffe – there it is on my badge so it must be true.

The conference dinner at Outside-In was wonderful.

Old friends – (and wonderful final Keynote speaker) Jane Rendell

Even older friends – Angela Kyriacou Petrou and Emma Cheatle

….and newer friends (and amazing conference co-organiser) Oren Lieberman
